A group of enthusiastic reporters turned up at the Mombasa Beach Hotel today to attend a media training facilitated by the Local Organising Committee of the IAAF World Under 18 Championships which will be hosted in Nairobi between July 12th and 16th. The 32 reporters represented various media organisations from Kilifi to Msambweni and Taita. Among stations whose staff were presented included KBC, Sifa FM, Radio Radio Rahma, Boresha FM, Kaya FM, Anguo FM and Qwetu radio. Coast based newspapers included The Kilifian, The Coast Newspaper and Coastweek. This is the third Media Training having conducted others in Nairobi and Eldoret.
Members of the LOC Media and Broadcasting Sub-Committee, led by chairman Chris Mutungi and his assistant, Nahum Okwiya and members Isaack Omulo, Elias Makori, Michael Kwambo, Francis Fondo, Amin Mohamed, Margaret Wariko and Virginia Munyao conducted the training.
The interactive sessions were particularly interesting with reporters raising issues that could best add value to media operations before and during the forthcoming World Championships. The event was graced by the presence of Anisa Abdalla, chairperson of Athletics Kenya in Mombasa County, who regretted that the County should do much more to help promote sports in general and athletics in particular at the Coast region.
