NAIROBI (July 9) - Morocco and Algeria were among the teams who got a taste and feel of the new-look Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, which will host the 10th IAAF World Under 18 Championships from Wednesday to Sunday.
The Maghreb nations brought in their athletes from the hostels in Kenyatta University on Sunday morning to enjoy the brand new azure blue tartan track at the 60,000-seater stadium. Bahamas and Poland also brought their athletes to train at the stadium, which has undergone dramatic refurbishments inside and outside the stadium.Some 14 nations have arrived for the championships.
The warm-up area and its surroundings hosted other athletes who were the first to see and train on the new surfaces.
Security personnel swamped the stadium's peripheries, while technical officials, who read like who is who in Kenya's athletics folklore, got their briefing from the head of technical directorate, marathon legend Ibrahim Hussein.
Medical Directorate, under Jarred Nyakiba have pitched tents around the warm-up track and were inspecting where to handle many cases of muscle sprains that may arise during the championships.
Other officials of respective directorates also put last touch on their briefs as the clock ticks towards the big event.
