Do you have what it takes to be a Volunteer? We are looking for up to 3,000 passionate volunteers ’ – to light up the IAAF World U18 Nairobi 2017 Championships.

You will be the face of the Championships in Nairobi Kenya, demonstrating to the world how at the Home of Heroes we run sporting events.


Everyone! Whatever your background or ability, there are no barriers to being one of our volunteers.

Every Volunteer will receive an official volunteer uniform to wear during shifts, which you can keep after the Championships as a souvenir.


Applications will be done online to become a Volunteer. A link to volunteer registration system will be provided at a later date.


Event Logistics

These volunteers will be in areas such as Accreditation, Material Distribution, Protocol, Operations. You will be involved in helping to allocate volunteers and paid staff with Uniforms and Accreditation and helping with operational duties around the workforce check in. Volunteers with good organizational skills and a willingness to help will be good in this area.

Media and Commercial

These volunteers will be in areas such as Broadcast, Commercial and Media Operations. You will be involved in helping in the broadcast centre and with members of the press, supporting press conferences and media requests. Volunteers with an interest in Journalism and the Media will be good in this area.

Spectator Services

These volunteers will be in areas such as Fan Zones, Ticketing Areas, City-Wide Information Points and Information Areas across the Competition Stadium. These volunteers will need good communication skills and knowledge of Nairobi, excellent customer service skills and be willing to help members of the public and spectators.

Sport and Technical

These volunteers will support areas such as Anti-Doping, Athlete Services, Technical Information and Competition Delivery. Volunteers will complete core back of house roles making sure that the competition schedule can run on time. These volunteers would preferably have experience in Athletics.

Sport Presentation

These volunteers will support in areas such as Medal Ceremonies and Sports Presentations. These volunteers will help coordinate the logistics of medal ceremonies and also warm the crowds for specific events. These volunteers will need to be confident and have experience in event management and protocol.


These volunteers will work in areas such as Accommodation and Transport and Protocol. You will support back of house operations ensuring that the athletes are well looked after throughout the event. These volunteers will need to be organized and enjoy a role that will be very busy.

Medical Services

These volunteers will support the wide variety of Medical Roles across the championships. You will need to be a highly skilled and qualified professional to undertake this role.


These volunteers will support IT, Telecoms, and other technology requirements across the championships. You will undertake roles that are mainly computer based. These volunteers should have a good level of ICT Technical knowledge and Skills

VIP and Protocol

These volunteers will support VIP services and the IAAF Administration Teams, ensuring that delegate areas are ready and chaperone VIP guests to appropriate areas. These volunteers should have an interest in Athletics and a welcoming manner.


The IAAF World U18 Championships will take place on 12th -17th July, 2017. Volunteers will be required for the duration of both championships, with some selected roles required outside of the competition dates.
